GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Unable to put any other its chances into the net, Dixie State College women's soccer lost a non-conference match 1-0 to host Colorado Mesa University thanks to a 78th minute score by Sophia Whigham.

Dixie State (1-2) head coach Linda Huddleston was pleased with her team's effort, but could not capitalize on the great looks they had offensively.

Julia Chipman (Washington, UT/Pine View) had a pair of shots saved late in the first half while DSC's last opportunity sailed high off the foot of Camille Jensen (North Logan, UT/Sky View).

The Mavericks (1-2) set up the game winner off a Kaselyn Butters tip pass, leaving Whigham clear to punch the ball into the left side of the net.

The Red Storm returns to the field Saturday at 4 p.m. to face the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College.
