MSOC: Dixie State rallies in second half, draws match with Biola

Non-conference match goes the distance

Box Score ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College men's soccer trailed by two goals late in regulation on Tuesday against Biola University. Goals by Nyle Ortiz (Layton, UT/Layton) and Alex Lawhun (Draper, UT/Alta) forced overtime and earned the Red Storm a 2-2 draw in non-conference action.

The Red Storm generated its second draw of the year, moving its record to 3-2-2. Biola moved to 5-1-2 on the season.

Down by two in the 75th minute, Ortiz boomed a shot from the right side, 18 yards out, and snuck the ball into the left corner.

Nine minutes later, Lawhun netted the equalizer off a solid corner kick by Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber).

Both teams had chances to end the match in overtime. DSC's Billy Segal faced three looks on goal in the two overtime sessions, stopping them all. A pair of Ortiz efforts sailed high and wide ensuring the draw.

Biola took a 1-0 lead off a Dixie State own goal in the 16th minute. The lead increased to two early in the second half. Daniel Chew put in a rebounded shot past Segal.

The physical match saw three Dixie State yellow cards and 53 combined fouls. Biola outshot the Red Storm 18-14 and 8-4 on goal.

Dixie State returns to the pitch at Hansen Stadium on Saturday at 4 p.m. for a Pacific West Conference match with Cal Baptist.
