WSOC: Mason notches hat trick in 6-0 rout

DSC explodes offensively in home opener

ST. GEORGE – Maybe the Dixie State College women's soccer team was waiting to unleash the full fury of its offense until Friday's regular-season home opener. Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) completed a hat trick in the 67th minute helping the Red Storm to a 6-0 rout over the Academy of Art University.

Dixie State improved to 3-5 on the season and evened its mark in the Pacific West Conference to 1-1. The Urban Knights dropped to 0-3 in league play and 1-5 overall.

Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) started the goal scoring for Dixie State in the fourth minute, with assists from Mason and Jordyn Ross (Saint George, UT/Dixie).

Then, Mason took over. An unassisted goal midway through the first half gave DSC a 2-0 lead at the break.

Two more easy looks came in the 61st and 67th minutes respectively to complete Mason's day.

Kelsey Gomer (Sparks, NV/Reed) (77') and Lauren Minnick (Draper, UT/Alta) (87') filled out the DSC goal tally – both goals assisted by Kimberly Thurmond.

Abby Johnson (Escondido, CA/Mission Hills) earned the shutout win, making two saves in goal.

Dixie State plays Cal Baptist on October 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Hansen Stadium.
