Box Score Box Score: TSU 2, DSC 1

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Junior forward Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) scored his first goal of the year, but Dixie State men's soccer fell short of an upset. The Red Storm fell 2-1 to #19 Truman State on Sunday afternoon in a match played at Colorado Mesa.

Dixie State now sits with a 1-2-1 record in non-conference matches, with two more on the schedule mixed in among Pacific West play.

Head coach Danny Ortiz (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron) said: "This was a great game to be a part of. The team played with tremendous heart and effort. We were the better team on the day in every category except the score."

Truman scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick in the 19th minute.

The Red Storm found the equalizer in the closing minutes of the first half. Off a corner kick from Nyle Ortiz (Layton, UT/Layton), Roylance found the ball near the far post and cashed in the goal to the right corner.

The match remained at a 1-1 stalemate until the 74th minute. Truman netted the game winner when a tipped ball settled in the middle of the box and Matt Sanderson shot past DSC goalkeeper Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) to the right side.

Overall, Dixie State outshot the Bulldogs 12-10 and had more corner kick opportunities (6-4). The match included 28 total fouls, of which 19 were called on the Red Storm.

DSC opens PacWest play on Saturday at Grand Canyon, beginning at 8 p.m.

Ortiz said, "I believe the guys are coming away with a great deal of confidence heading into conference play."
