ST. GEORGE, Utah – Senior infielder Justin Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) picked a great day to put on an offensive display. Starting on Senior Day, Jensen slugged a grand slam and totaled 11 RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Arizona Christian on Saturday.

Dixie State College swept the four-game set with 14-7 and 14-2 wins over the Firestorm at Bruce Hurst Field. The Red Storm completed the 2011 regular season with a 32-15 record.

The home team did not lack for offense in the opener scoring runs in every inning except the sixth. RBI singles by Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) in the first and Mike Stiles (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) in the second put DSC up early 2-0.

Arizona Christian (14-34 NAIA) pulled within a run in the third, but Littlewood quickly nabbed the run back with his 11th home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the inning. Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie), one of four seniors honored Saturday, lined a single scoring Joe Andrade (Yuma, AZ/San Luis ) for a 4-1 lead.

Dixie State tacked on two more runs in each of the four and fifth innings. Jensen began his torrent RBI string with a two-run single in the latter frame. Two innings later, Jensen blasted a grand slam for his first bomb of the season. An RBI groundout in the eighth capped his 7 RBI outing.

Dedrick wind up
All of the DSC offense supported starter Mike Dedrick (Cedar City, UT/Canyon View), who improved to 5-3 on the year. The sophomore allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out five.

The series finale start fell to junior James Mahler (Sandy, UT/West Jordan). He went the distance in a quality start – two runs on five hits over seven innings. The win moved Mahler to the top of the DSC pitching staff with seven wins.

DSC took control of the finale in the second inning posting six runs against ACU pitcher Sydney Jones. Nick Urban (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) began the rally scoring from third on a wild pitch. Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) singled to knock home Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) and set the stage for Jensen, who plated a pair with a single to left. Andrade brought home two more with a double to right center.

Four more tallies including an Andrade home run to right field pushed the score to 10-1.

The final runs for DSC on the regular season came from Nelson. A two-run single to right field brought an end to Nelson's impressive Red Storm career.

Every starter had at least one hit in the finale. Jensen led the way with three hits as the team accounted for 15 total.

Dixie State College awaits a final verdict regarding a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
