BOX SCORE GAME 2

SAINT GEORGE, UT- Trevor Goff (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Quinn Boyer (Ogden, UT/Bonneville HS) in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Dixie State College baseball team a 6-5 come from behind victory over Academy of Art University at Bruce Hurst Field.

Rhett Welsh (Arvada, CO/Standley Lake) singled to start the inning and Boyer pinch ran for him. With one out, Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) executed the hit and run perfectly by hitting the ball past the second baseman into right field. Boyer would reach third base on the hit and that's when Goff's fly ball to left center allowed the magic to happen.

The Red Storm (9-6, 6-2 PWC) battled back all game trailing 5-1 by scoring runs in the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and the eighth innings. Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie), Welsh, and Zitting had two hits each.

Jordan Blanchard came in and relieved starter Sam Friend (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial). Blanchard pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing only one hit and struck out two. Daniel Zapata (Mesa, AZ/Westwood) picked up the win by striking out four Urban Knights and allowing no hits in two innings of work.

In game one, Dixie State collected 13 hits that led to a 13-9 victory over the Urban Knights. Goff led the way with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Zitting, Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) and Nick Urban (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) had two hits apiece.

After picking two runs in the 2nd inning and fifth innings, the Red Storm erupted to score five runs in the seventh inning and four runs in the eighth to earn the victory.

In the top of the seventh inning and the Red Storm leading 4-3, coach Mike Littlewood was ejected for arguing two consecutive balk calls and had to miss game two with his suspension.

Academy of Art (2-12, 2-6 PWC) would not go away. They would score a run in the eighth and plate five more runs in the top of the ninth inning. Darnell Quinney would hit a bases clearing double and pick up three RBI. Niko Leite also added two hits in the loss.

The Red Storm will host Hawaii Pacific next Sunday at 4PM at Bruce Hurst Field.
