Hunter Leads Red Storm to Sweep of Hawaii Pacific

SAINT GEORGE, UT-Sophomore Troy Hunter (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) pitched a complete game, striking out three and allowed two runs, one earned, on hits to lead the Dixie State College baseball team to an 8-2 victory in the first game of a PacWest doubleheader over Hawaii Pacific University. The Red Storm also won game two 4-2 to pick up the sweep.

Trevor Goff (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) led the game off with a solo home run to right field and Joe Andrade (Yuma, AZ/San Luis ) tripled down the right field to clear the bases and pick up 3 RBI.

In the third inning, Andrade picked up another RBI with a single to right field scoring Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie), giving the Red Storm a 6-0 lead.

Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) had an RBI single in the fourth and Nelson followed with an RBI groundout to take 8-0 lead.

For HPU, Kale Sumner and Ryan Morihara each had RBI singles in the top of the sixth inning.

Hunter threw 128 pitches and improved to 2-1 on the season.

In the second game, Jordan Blanchard, making a spot start for the injured Mike Dedrick (Cedar City, UT/Canyon View), pitched a solid three and two thirds innings to help lead the Red Storm to victory.

Kyle DiMartino (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) came in with two outs and the bases loaded and got Wade Tamaru to ground to end the Sea Warrior (6-12, 4-4 PWC) threat. DiMartino picked up his first win and Daniel Zapata (Mesa, AZ/Westwood) earned his second save in relief.

The Red Storm (12-7, 9-3 PWC) offense was scattered with Zitting, Nelson, Rhett Welsh (Arvada, CO/Standley Lake), and Andrade each picking up RBI. Andrade was the lone hitter with two hits in the game.

Dixie State will continue its home-stand with five games starting next Sunday with Hawaii-Hilo. They are scheduled to play conference doubleheaders Sunday and Monday and non-conference tilt on Tuesday. Check DixieAthletics.com for updated information.
