Red Storm soccer see season-ending slide continue

3-1 loss at CBU ends season for the Red Storm

Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Dixie State started the Pacific West Conference season with a six-match win streak. Unfortunately for the Red Storm, the league schedule ended with four consecutive losses.

Visiting the Lancers of Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon, Dixie State lost 3-1 in a match that secured a share of the league title for CBU with Hawaii Pacific.

The Red Storm fell to 8-8-2 for the season and concluded league play at 7-5.

CBU and Dixie State played to a 1-1 tie after one half. Ruban Sanchez struck first for the Lancers. Off a cross from Marc Hope that deflected off a DSC player, Ruben Sanchez beat Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) to the right post for the goal.

Dixie State countered with an equalizer off the hustle of Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View). A header to himself put him behind the goalkeeper and with a wide-open look at the net. Roylance's shot was the lone one for the Red Storm in the first 45 minutes.

Both teams had six shots in the second period, but only CBU connected with scores. Osvaldo Bastida earned the game-winner, his 11th goal of the year, in the 53rd minute. Marc Hope added a goal to his first-half assist in the 83rd minute.

“I feel nothing but respect for each of these young men,” said Danny Ortiz (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron), Dixie State men's head coach. “They gave the best they had.”
