Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber) game-winning goal at the 101:59 mark in double overtime gave the Dixie State College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Dominican University of California tonight at Hansen Stadium.

The Red Storm (5-2-2, 4-0-0 PWC) survived the scare from the visiting Penguins (2-8-0, 1-4-0 PWC) to remain unbeaten in PacWest play. They also ran their winning steak to four in a row.

DSC Head Coach Danny Ortiz said, “It was a tough physical game, but felt we would pull it out if we just kept being aggressive going at the goal. Tyler (Albretsen) did just that and it paid off for us. “

Both squads had 11 fouls in the physical game, with Dominican getting two yellow cards and Dixie State receiving one.

Red Storm goalkeeper Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) was able to ward off many Penguin attempts on the night and none bigger than the one in the first overtime. Walters finished the match with seven saves.

Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) and the defense did an outstanding job all night,” continued Coach Ortiz.

Despite outshooting Dominican 24-16 in the match, the Penguins kept the pressure on all night.

The announced crowd of 512 for the match created an electric environment all game. When Albretsen slithered past three Dominican defenders and found the net for the win, the crowd erupted in elation.

“The fans were awesome tonight and really helped contribute to the win”, said Coach Ortiz. “I am very excited for the guys; again they put together another 100 plus minutes of solid effort.”

The Red Storm returns to the pitch at Hansen Stadium on Tuesday for a non-conference match with Western Washington at 1:00 p.m.
