MSOC: Comeback Falls Short Against Notre Dame de Namur

Box Score

SAINT GEORGE, Utah --  The Dixie State College men's soccer team lost a 2-1 match to Notre Dame de Namur tonight at Hansen Stadium.

Playing for the first 50 minutes in a scoreless battle, NDNU's Cristobal Montes shredded the defense of the Red Storm by netting two goals in two minutes and three seconds. They were his 11th and 12th of the season.

His first goal came on a cross from Christian Rosales from the deep left side and he netted it on the right side from 10 yards out. The second in the 53rd minute, from just five yards out on the right side.

Dixie State rebounded when Tanner Steed (Tremonton, UT/Bear River) picked up his first goal of the season from 19 yards out center field on a slick plass from Nyle Ortiz (Layton, UT/Layton) to bring the Red Storm within a goal.

The Red Storm would keep the pressure on and several chances last in the game, but could not convert them into goals.

Head coach Danny Ortiz (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron) said; "Tough loss tonight, I know the team expected better from themselves. I believe learning to win big games like this is all part of the maturation process for our program."

Dixie State was outshot 25-8 for the match and had three yellow cards to just one on the Argonauts.

"We will learn from this and move forward, continued Ortiz. "I believe we will be fine come Saturday."

The same two teams with go head-to-head on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Dixie High School's Flyer Field.
