Walters shutout, Rivero goal earns win for men's soccer

Dixie State closes Hawaiian excursion with three wins

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Dixie State men's soccer saw goalkeeper Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) earn his third shutout in a four-game span Saturday and Francisco Rivero (Paramount, CA/Paramount) tallied the only goal in a 1-0 win for the Red Storm over the host Silverswords of Chaminade.

Dixie State (8-4-2, 7-1 PWC) battled through an organized Chaminade (0-13-1, 0-9) defense to outshoot its opponent 21-5, including a 13-2 spread in the final 45 minutes.

“It was a good win at the end of a long road trip,” said Danny Ortiz, DSC head coach. “I am very proud of the whole team in their effort.”

After securing consecutive corner kick opportunities, Rivero took a pass from Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber) and scored at the 13:34 mark of the match.

The Swords had limited opportunities to respond, forcing its last opportunity with 18 minutes left in the match. Dixie State took the final five shots of the contest.

Dixie State returns home for the next three matches, beginning with Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday at 7 p.m.
