VB: Hill leads Red Storm to 3-0 win over Chaminade

BOX SCORE

SAINT GEORGE, Utah
– Senior middle blocker Morgan Hill (Logan. UT/Logan) tied her own school record by collecting 10 blocks to lead the Dixie State College volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) win over Chaminade University. The win was the Red Storm's seventh consecutive.

The Red Storm also earned 14 blocks as a team for the second consecutive night. With a balanced attack on the offensive side of the net, four DSC players had more than seven kills. Sophomore hitter Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) had seven, Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) and Alex Shearer (Park City. UT/Park City) had nine kills each and Hill also added 10 kills to her 10 blocks (2 solo, 8 assists).

“We really played well at the nets and we able to capitalize on our game plan, said head coach Darice Pratt. “We used a team concept to succeed tonight.”

In the third set with the Red Storm leading 15-8, freshman setter Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) twisted her ankle and had to leave the match and forced DSC to look to outside hitter Shearer to set the final 10 points of the game.

Hardman has been the primary setter for Dixie State all season and were not prepared to be without her. Back-up setter Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) is looking to redshirt this season and the injury forced coach Pratt into a difficult decision in the middle of the match.

“I didn't want to waste a red shirt season for just 10 points and so we needed to try and grind it out,” continued coach Pratt. “We were fortunate to have a little wiggle room.”

Dixie State committed a couple of ball handing errors and even a rotation error that gave Chaminade points. But, the lead was too much to overcome for the Silverswords. CUH drops to 2-17 overall and 1-11 in PacWest play.

With the win Dixie State improves to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the PacWest. Currently the Red Storm in second place behind BYU-Hawaii.

The Red Storm continues their home stand with two matches against Hawaii Pacific on Monday and Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
