Vikings score in-region win over Dixie State

Box Score

ST. GEORGE – A pair of Kellan Brown goals proved to be enough for the visiting Western Washington men's soccer team Tuesday in a 2-1 non-conference win over Dixie State College at Hansen Stadium.

The Vikings improved to 5-6 with the win, while the Red Storm (5-3-2) had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped.

Nyle Ortiz (Layton, UT/Layton) netted DSC's only goal of the match with a header in the 89th minute. The opportunity came off a corner kick and rebound off the crossbar on a Clayton Alexander (Issaquah, WA/Issaquah/Brighton) attempt.

Brown used a pair of deflections for his goals. The effort in the 14th minute materialized off a post rebound. His second goal came off a rebounded block off a free kick.

Billy Sagel (Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza) and Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) each allowed a goal and made one save apiece. WWU's Keegan Rogers made four saves in goal.

The Red Storm travel to the Hawaiian Islands for a critical four-game conference road trip beginning Saturday, Oct. 15 at Hawaii-Hilo.
