Red Storm Win Physical Match at Dominican

DSC men end Bay Area trip better than .500

SAN RAFAEL, CALIF. (Sept. 22) – Junior Zac Hales (Saint George, UT/Dixie) scored an early goal and sophomore Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) netted a late insurance score to lead the Dixie State College men's soccer team to a 2-1 road victory over Dominican University on Wednesday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play.

Dixie State ended their four-game trek to the Bay Area with two wins, a loss and a draw to post a season record of 2-4-1 (2-1-1 PWC). The Penguins (0-5-1, 0-2-0 PWC) scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute, but could not push across the equalizer in the final minute.

Hales reacted on a DUC goalie deflection and put Dixie State up 1-0 at the 8:10 mark. Midway through the second half, Nyle Ortiz (Layton, UT/Layton) set up Roylance who blasted a goal from the right side.

Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) played the entire match in goal and made six saves in victory.

The match was marred by physical play. Dixie State was assessed six of the nine player yellow cards and head coach Danny Ortiz was hit with a yellow late in the match. Thirty-five fouls were called between the teams.

Conference play returns to the St. George-area on Thursday, September 30 when the Red Storm face Hawaii Pacific University. The match is slated to begin at 4:30pm and a location to be determined.
