MSOC: Physical Game Ends in Draw, Red Storm and Hilo tied at 2

BELMONT, CA-In a wild and physical game that featured nine yellow cards and two red cards, the Dixie State College men's soccer team hung on for a 2-2 draw against PacWest rival Hawaii-Hilo.

 

Giving the Red Storm an early advantage was Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT, Sky View) 19:17 into the first half. Assisting on Roylance's 2nd goal of the season was Kody Hunter (Hooper, UT, Fremont).

 

Just 13 minutes later Dixie State's Eudoro Guizar (Battle Mountain, NV, Battle Mountain, Southwest Oregon Community College) added his first goal of the season giving the Red Storm a 2-0 lead at the 32:07 mark.

 

Just before the half at the 41:48 mark, Hawaii-Hilo cut the Red Storm advantage to 2-1on a successful penalty kick by George Ichimaru.

 

Hawaii-Hilo added what would be the game tying goal in the 84th minute when Cameron Castillo found Eduardo Ayala, knotting the game for good at two.

 

Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT, Ben Lomand) was stellar in goal in the two overtimes, knocking back four shots in each of the overtime periods to help the Red Storm earn the draw.

 

In the match, UHH outshot the Red Storm by a 18-14 margin.

 

With the draw, DSC moved to 1-3-1 overall (1-0-1 PWC) while UHH moved to 1-2-1 (0-1-1).

NOTES: Josh Hernandez (Kaysville, UT, Davis) received one of the two red cards handed out in Saturday's match and per NCAA rules he will be forced to miss Monday's match with NDNU.
