Red Storm Call Win in Corner Pocket

Tesoro, Davis spark shutout of AAU

Whitley Davis had a goal and two assists in Pac West opening win

SAN FRANCISCO, CA –
The duo of Kelsey Tesoro (Torrance, CA/Shadow Ridge) and Whitley Davis (Sandy, UT/Brighton) contributed on every Dixie State College goal in the Bay Area helping the Red Storm defeat the host Urban Knights of Academy of Art University 3-0 in each squad's Pacific West Conference opener.

Dixie State (4-1-0, 1-0-0 PWC) controlled the pace of the match by dominating on shots 25-to-5. Academy of Art (1-1-1, 0-1-0 PWC) dropped their first match of the season.

Corner kicks opened up opportunities for the Red Storm beginning in the 36th minute. Davis took the DSC corner kick and placed the ball perfectly for a Tesoro header that beat AAU goalie Melissa Co.

The goal scoring/assist tables turned at 58:27. Tesoro took a free kick after an Urban Knight foul and nearly missed another goal by hitting the post. Davis broke in front of the net and headed in the rebound for her first season goal and Dixie State's 2-0 lead.

Mere minutes later, another Davis corner kick again found Tesoro's head for the team's third tally.

April Beck (American Fork, UT/American Fork) did not face a shot in goal in her 67 minutes for the win (4-1). Abby Monroe-Johnson did make the lone Red Storm save off a Morgan McKnight shot.

The Red Storm extended their streak of winning Pac West Conference openers to three years straight.

Dixie State continues their journey in the Bay Area on Saturday in a neutral site match against the University of Hawaii-Hilo. The contest will be played at Notre Dame de Namur at 2:00pm Mountain time.
