Adams Provides Walk-Off for 12th Straight Win

Solo homer in extra frame completes sweep of Cal Baptist

Winning pitcher Todd Morlock
Box Score ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to supply Dixie State College a walk-off 9-8 victory over California Baptist University on Wednesday afternoon. Adams' 11th homer of the year finished off a two-game sweep of CBU and extended the Red Storm's season-long win streak to 12 games.

Dixie State (23-9) trailed by as many as six runs heading into the fifth inning, but used the latter innings to crawl even and eventually past the Lancers. Cal Baptist (28-9) dropped its second straight game for the first time this season.

Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville) earned the win (2-0) tossing three innings of one run, two hit ball in relief. Preston Grimes (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) started and scattered seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits in seven innings receiving a no-decision.

Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) had a three-run home run in the DSC fifth. Friend would bring home a tying run in the seventh grounding into a double play – plating Judd Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) from third.

Cal Baptist pushed back ahead with an infield single by Brain Sharp in the eighth only to see Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie) double in Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) to knot the game back up in the home half.

DSC could not capitalize on a chance to win the game in regulation stranding runners at second and third in the ninth. After Morlock retired the side in order in the Lancer tenth, Adams took the fifth pitch from Zach Hedges (L, 1-2) over the wall in left for the victory.

The Storm outhit Cal Baptist 13 to 12 and survived committing five defensive errors. Nelson and Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) had three hits apiece while Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) and Adams each had two safeties.

Dixie State hits the road for the next 10 games beginning Thursday, April 8 for a doubleheader against Pac West leader Hawaii Pacific University. First pitch from Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu is scheduled for 8:00pm MT.
