Power Outage Can't Damper Red Storm Offense

DSC scores 22 runs in Friday DH sweep of AAU; Prodan topples K record

RHP Justin Prodan recorded 13 K against AAU
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Dixie State College of Utah continued to play solid baseball on its current 16-game home stand sweeping a doubleheader on Friday against the visiting Urban Knights of Academy of Art University by scores of 5-2 and 17-4.

DSC (19-9, 12-6 PWC) won their eighth straight against Pacific West competition. Academy of Art (2-22, 2-12 PWC) hung early with the Red Storm in both games before succumbing to the blistering offense and two great complete games outings from DSC's starters.

Justin Prodan (Rohnert Park, CA/Rancho Cotate) started the series opener and broke the Dixie State Division-II record for strikeouts in a game fanning 13 in his seven innings. He eclipsed the previous mark of 11 set by himself on March 14 against Hawaii Pacific and Cody Hanson at Central Washington on April 19, 2008. Prodan allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits improving his season record to 4-3.

Offensively, Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) led Dixie State with two hits and an RBI. Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) added a two-run single as part of a defining three-run frame in the fourth.

Drew Sullivan-Hames (1-6) took the game one loss for AAU.

With the winds blowing out in game two, the long ball appeared early. Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) swatted a three-run bomb over the scoreboard in left-center in the first and Quinn Boye (Ogden, UT/Bonneville HS)r slammed his first homer of the year, another three-run effort, in the DSC second.

Dixie State busted the game open scoring six times in the fourth. Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) scored a pair with a screaming single past third and Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie) capped the inning with a two-run double to left-center.

Junior catcher Cameron Cushing (Pocatello, ID/Vallivue) tallied his first hit in a Red Storm uniform, a fifth inning single. Friend added a solo blast in the sixth inning. Four Red Storm players – Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham), Adams, Judd Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) and Friend – carded multi-hit games.

All of the Dixie State offense supported freshman starter Troy Hunter (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) to earn his first collegiate complete game. Hunter scattered four runs on seven hits while striking out four.

AAU righty Alex Rosenthal was tagged for 12 runs (six earned) in 2.2 innings for the loss.

The teams reconvene at Bruce Hurst Field to complete the four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is at 12pm Noon.
