PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Dixie State College snapped a four-game losing streak defeating Grand Canyon 7-3 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader before dropping the series finale in the final at-bat 6-5 to split the doubleheader.

Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) slugged a first-inning homer as part of a three-run spurt. The Red Storm pushed the lead to five runs on a Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) RBI single in the second and a third inning RBI hit by Jordan Hanley (Las Vegas. NV/Bonanza).

A pair of unearned runs added insurance in the seventh when GCU's shortstop misplayed Judd Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville)'s grounder allowing Adams and Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) to score.

Lane Kirby (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) (W, 1-0) picked up the win relieving Tim McMahon (Littleton. CO/Heritage). Kirby threw 5.1 innings allowing an earned run on five hits. Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville) recorded two outs for his second save.

In the nightcap, GCU pitcher and DH Colin Courtland did all of the damage necessary to beat DSC. Courtland homered off B.J. Ferguson in the first in the Lopes Four-run opening frame.

Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) hit a solo-shot in the fourth to help the Storm score single runs in every innings from the second to the sixth setting the stage for a 5-5 tie entering the seventh.

With one out in the home seventh, Troy Hunter (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) (L, 0-1) surrendered a game-winning double to Joey Jacobson scoring Jay Green for the series victory.

Dixie State baseball returns to action on February 28 for a double header against Montana State - Billings. First pitch from Bruce Hurst Field in St. George is set for 12:00pm Noon.
