Second half team effort nets win at Dominincan

BOX SCORE: DSC 4, DUC 2

SAN RAFAEL, CALIF. (November 4) –
To steal poetic license from Charles Dickens: “It was the best of soccer matches, it was the worst of soccer matches.”

Down 2-0 at halftime, the Dixie State women's soccer team responded with one of their most dominating efforts of the season to comeback and defeat the host Lady Penguins of Dominican University by a score of 4-2.

Dixie State improved to 11-6 on the year and 8-5 in Pacific West Conference play. The victory also snapped a two-match losing streak against Dominican.

In a short span of 70 seconds midway through the first half; Katie Brown and Lexi Humphrey both scored unassisted goals to put the Penguins in a favorable position, although Dixie State outshot their opponents seven-to-four in the first 45 minutes.

Whatever adjustments discussed between periods worked to perfection for Dixie State who did not allow a Dominican shot in the second half. The comeback began in the 60th minute when a Camille Peterson-Jensen floater crept over the keeper to cut the deficit to one goal.

Peterson aided in the game-tying score nine minutes later setting up freshman Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) toward an open spot in the lower-right corner.

With the momentum on their side, Dixie State wasted no time taking the lead. In the 71st minute, not more than 120 seconds separated from the equalizer, Dacee Stephens (Hyde Park, UT/Sky View) cashed in the go-ahead goal to the right side off a Wendy Stratford (Layton, UT/Layton) assist.

Kalehua Harward (Saint George, UT/Dixie) ensured victory with a goal to a wide-open net at 86:17 off a foul kick from Erin Beeston (Edmond, OK/Edmond North).

April Beck (American Fork, UT/American Fork) bounced back from the two allowed goals in the first half to earn her third straight victory.

Dixie State will play their final match of the season at Academy of Art University on Saturday beginning at 8:30am Pacific.
