Beckstrom Leads Storm Soccer to Shutout of HPU

Mindi Beckstrom nets both goals in PWC win

ST. GEORGE, UTAH (Oct. 2) – Freshman forward Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest) scored a goal in each half assisting Dixie State to a 2-0 victory over the Hawaii Pacific University Sea Warriors for the second time in three nights in Pacific West Conference play.

The Red Storm (7-3-0, 4-2-0 PWC) were outshot by HPU (2-6-0, 2-3-0 PWC) 13 to 12. Goaltender April Beck (American Fork, UT/American Fork) saved four shots on goal including stopping an Amber Fuller shot in the 80th minute to ensure her second straight shutout win.

Beckstrom put DSC up 1-0 from, almost literally, out of nowhere. She nailed the upper part of the net from 35 yards straight away at the 39:32 mark.

Her insurance goal assisted by a cross by Lauren Minnick (Draper, UT/Alta) in the 83rd minute gave the Storm their ninth straight victory over HPU dating back to 2006.

Dixie State will now begin a critical Pac West stretch with BYU-Hawaii on Tuesday, October 5 at 1:00pm. The match will be played at Dixie High School.
