Wilkes Nets Fantastic Four in PW Win

Five point day highlights DSC 7-0 over Urban Knights

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – One of the most exhilarating feats in the game of soccer is the hat trick – three goals in a single match. Monday morning in California, Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak HS '06) completed the task in the second half. Throw in a fourth goal and an assist, Wilkes speared the Dixie State Red Storm to an amazing 7-0 rout over the Academy of Art Urban Knights.

The win propels Dixie State (4-3-0, 3-0-0 PACWEST) into sole possession of first place in the Pacific West Conference and extends a season long winning streak to three. Academy of Art (0-8-3, 0-3-2) remains winless in their first season as full members of the Pac West.

Wilkes netted her first goal in the 41st minute heading in a corner kick by Whitley Davis (Sandy, UT/Brighton). Her next two goals came within a span of seven minutes – an assisted ball from Camille Peterson and an unassisted goal into the top left corner. After an assist on Peterson's 75th minute goal, Wilkes completed her marvelous outing with another unassisted goal to the right corner. At day's end, Wilkes more than doubled her season goal total from three to seven.

Robyn Wal (Bountiful. UT/Bountiful HS '06)l got the Storm on the board in the 5th minute on a crossing kick from Erin Beeston (Edmond, OK/Edmond North). Shannon Larson and Wendy Stratford (Layton, UT/Layton) played a through ball one on one versus the goalie. Larson scored past Solveig Barnes to make the score 2-0.

Tonya Smith (Eagle Mountain. UT/Lehi) made one save playing the first half while Abby Monroe stopped three attempts over the last 45 minutes.

The Red Storm continues Pac West play Thursday, October 8 against Chaminade University. Kickoff is set for 2pm at Hansen Stadium.
