Storm Halted by Penguin March

Dominican Univ. secures frist conference win

SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA – Dixie State soccer continued Pacific West Conference play in Northern California Saturday afternoon against the Penguins of Dominican University. A tied match after one half was decided in the 62nd minute on Pedro Guevara's game winner for Dominican in a 3-2 final.

The Red Storm (2-3-1, 0-1-1 PACWEST) outshot their hosts by three, but could not find the net over the last 35 minutes. The triumph for the Penguins (5-3-1, 1-0-0 PACWEST) resulted in the school's first ever soccer win inside the conference.

Dominican scored the match's first goal in the 12th minute by Evan Cordova off a free kick. Five minutes later, Rafael Garcia made it 2-0 assisted by Thomas Clinch and Shane Huiberts.

Dixie State answered with two scores before halftime. Francisco Arellano (Ogden, UT/Pine View) (19:00) and Robby Astin (Hayden, ID/Coeur d'Alene) (36:49) both beat Penguin goalie Matthey Carlson during one-on-one battles.

Guevara netted the game-winner off a pass from Spencer Eckert .

Bryant Green (Taylorsville, UT/Kearns) made two saves for Dixie State in goal.

The road trip in California continues Monday afternoon when the Red Storm take to the pitch against the Academy of Arts (SF) Urban Knights at 1:00pm Pacific.

Men's soccer returns to Hansen Stadium on October 8 against Chaminade University at 5pm.
