PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Dixie State men's soccer team opened up Pacific West Conference play Saturday night against nationally-ranked Grand Canyon University. A stalemate over the first 86 minutes came to an abrupt end when the #20 Antelopes (#3 in the West region) scored the game winner in a 1-0 match against the Red Storm at the GCU Soccer Field. 
Dixie State (2-2-1, 0-1 PACWEST) were held scoreless for the first time in the 2009 season. The Antelopes (4-1-1, 1-0 PACWEST) applied tons of pressure in the second half with 11 of their 15 shots coming in the last 45 minutes. 
In the game's 87th minute, GCU freshman forward Kyle Ciliento scored from the left side assisted by Chris Green. 
Red storm goalie Tyler McAnich played well recording five saves in the losing effort. 
Three early scoring chances for Dixie State ended up outside the net. 
Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) headed the ball wide right in the 16th minute while attempts by 
Jose Rodriguez (Cheyenne, WY/Rock Springs) and 
Kody Hunter (Hooper, UT/Fremont) ended up in the hands of GCU goal keeper Ben Paneccasio. 
The Red Storm looks to bounce back in Pacific West Conference action next Saturday against Dominican University in northern California. Match time is 2pm Mountain in San Rafael. After a match on Sept. 28 at Academy of Art, Dixie State will have play their first conference home game against Chaminade University on October 8 at 5pm.
