Storm soccer draws with Adams State

Home opener ends 1-1

ST. GEORGE – In the 2009 home opener, the Dixie State Red Storm welcomed the Grizzlies of Adams State College. Regulation and two overtimes were not enough to decide a winner as the two teams ended the day with a 1-1 draw.

Dixie State's record moves to 2-1-1 while the Grizzlies earn their third draw, 0-5-3.

Adams State scored in the 9th minute on a Jesse Dunbar goal assisted by Peter Freeman. The Red Storm had multiple chances to even the tally near the end of the first half including a 20-yard shot from Francisco Rivero (Paramount, CA/Paramount) that sailed wide right. DSC outshot the Grizzlies 10-2 in the first 45 minutes.

Dixie State opened the second half with the equalizer - a penalty kick goal by Parker Kennah (Layton, UT/Northridge) in the 47th minute, his second goal in consecutive matches. The Red Storm outshot Adams State 17-0 in the second half.

Kennah's penalty kick four minutes into the first overtime blocked by Grizzlies' goalkeeper Jarod Thomas to sustain the stalemate. Neither team found the goal in the second overtime. Dixie State held the Grizzlies without a shot over the last 90 minutes.

Adams State's keeper Thomas blocked 13 of 14 DSC shots on goal.

The Red Storm men's team begins Pacific West Conference play Saturday, January 19 on the road against the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University. Dixie State returns home on Thursday, October 8 at 5:00pm against Chaminade.
