ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Down two games to one entering Saturday's series finale against 23rd-ranked Dominguez Hills, the Red Storm of Dixie State College knew they would have to have a better offensive showing to earn a spilt. Behind 11 hits and solid pitching, Dixie State never trailed en route to a 9-6 victory over the Toros. The Red Storm improved to 20-12 on the season and CSUDH fell to 21-16 after the non-conference contest. Dixie State starter Jayson Madson (Tremonton. UT/Bear River HS) earned his second victory of the year (2-2) after tossing 6 1/3 innings of six run, nine hit ball. The reliever trio of Nick Orgill (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls HS), Tim McMahon (Littleton. CO/Heritage) and Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville) combined to shutout Dominguez Hills over the last 2 2/3 innings. Morlock earned the save (2) striking out Jon Alia and getting John Skala to fly out. The Storm took an early 2-0 lead with RBI singles by Tim Mott (Las Vegas. NV/Las Vegas HS) and Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS), but the Toros tied the game in fourth after Carlos Leyva doubled home two. Dixie State exploded for five runs in the fourth inning capitalizing on three Toro errors. Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) and Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) each tallied an RBI single in the frame. Abe Candaleria (Camarillo. CA/Camarillo HS) walked with the bases loaded to earn another RBI. DSC led 7-2 after the critical inning. In the fifth, Adams again singled home a run and Mott walked with the bags packed to give the Red Storm a 9-2 lead. Dominguez Hills closed the gap to three, 9-6, pushing four runs across in the seventh highlighted by Alia's three-run home run to left. CSUDH starter David Fair dropped to 0-2 allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. Dixie State College will hit the road beginning April 9 for a 10-game trip on the Hawaiian Islands. DSC plays five games against Hawaii Pacific from April 9-11 before facing Hawaii Hilo April 13-15. The Storm returns home Thursday, April 23 at 7pm to play Grand Canyon University.
