Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HILO, HAWAII – Dixie State senior starter #Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS)# provided a well-timed complete game in Tuesday's opening game against the University of Hawaii-Hilo. The right-hander kept the Vulcan hitters off balance in the Red Storm's 11-1 game one victory. The home club needed a walk-off single to win the nightcap 3-2.

The Red Storm moved to 23-17 on the season and 11-9 in the Pac West while Hilo stands at 18-16 and 9-11 in conference.

Dixie State never trailed in game one scoring single runs in each of the first three innings. #Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS)# doubled in two and #Tim Mott (Las Vegas. NV/Las Vegas HS)# singled home another in the Storm's fourth inning. DSC capitalized on two Hilo errors plating five insurance runs in the sixth.

Southwick (4-5) pitched a gem scattering a run on six hits over seven innings while striking out six. At one point, Southwick retired twelve batters in a row.

The Red Storm swatted 15 hits paced by #Jimmy Dever (Tuscon. AZ/Catalina Foothills HS)# and Mott with three. #Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS)#, #Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie)# and #Abe Candaleria (Camarillo. CA/Camarillo HS)# added two apiece.

In the second game, #Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS)# cruised through his first four innings and did not allow a runner past first. Staked to a 2-0 lead after #Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview)#'s 12th home run of the season, Bailey offered back-to-back walks and was lifted for #Nick Orgill (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls HS)#. Vulcan LF Ronel Trias tied the game with a double down the left-field line handing Bailey his first no-decision in seven starts.

Brian Shannon held the Storm to just five hits in 6.2 innings. Christian Stephenson notched the final out in the Storm seventh to keep the score tied.

Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville) entered the game looking to send the contest into extra innings. Tony Brown singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitched moved Brown, the game-winning run, to third. With two out, 1B Shane Kessel singled through the right side to bring home Brown. Morlock (3-2) did strike out one, but received the loss.

The Storm had six hits in the nightcap led by Oldfield with two.

Dixie State and Hawaii Hilo close out the five-game set Wednesday with a single game at 1:00pm Hawaiian (5:00pm Mountain). The Storm returns home Thursday, April 23 to welcome conference foe Grand Canyon.
