Storm Baseball Drops First Two in Hilo

Drop into virtual tie for conference lead

HILO, HAWAII – The Red Storm of Dixie State could not capitalize on a chance to lengthen their slim advantage in the race for the Pacific West Conference title losing two games Monday evening at Hawaii-Hilo. The Vulcans played themselves back into the chase and helped island compatriot Hawaii Pacific move into a tie for first in the Pac West downing DSC by scores of 10-7 and 6-1 inside Wong Stadium.

 

Dixie State dropped to 22-16 on the year and 10-8 in the Pac West while the Vulcans improved to 17-15 and 8-10 in conference.

 

Six DSC players had two hits apiece in game one led by #Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta)# who had a double and two RBI. #Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS)# led off the game with a triple and #Abe Candaleria (Camarillo. CA/Camarillo HS)# later added a double. Dixie State outhit the Vulcans 13 to eight.

 

Kris Cichoski (Las Vegas. NV/Durnago HS) struggled again walking all three batters he faced to start the game. He was charged for two earned runs, but Jake Bankowski (Woods Cross. UT/Woods Cross HS) (0-2) received the loss allowing five runs on three hits in 2.2 innings. Kekoa Lee (4-3) struck out eight batters in 5.2 innings to notch the win for Hilo.

 

Clayton Uyechi (4-1) shined in the nightcap striking out 11 DSC batters en route to a complete game two-hitter. #Jordan Hanley (Las Vegas. NV/Bonanza)# broke up five innings of no-hit ball with a leadoff single in the sixth. Adams would bring him in with an RBI single.

 

Phil Finley (Washington. UT/Pine View HS) (2-2) tossed a complete game surrendering six runs on 11 hits while striking out three in a losing effort.

 

The teams return to action Tuesday afternoon at 3pm Hawaiian (7pm Mountain) for a doubleheader.
