Red Storm Maintain One Game Lead In Conference

Series split after Saturday's games

WAIPAHU, HAWAII – Rained out on Friday, the Red Storm of Dixie State College needed a split of Saturday's doubleheader to maintain a lead in the Pacific West conference championship race. Hawaii Pacific University pulled even with a 6-4 win, but the Storm regained a one-game conference lead earning the DH spilt with a 7-4 triumph in the nightcap.

 

Dixie State is 22-14 overall and 8-4 in the Pac West. The Sea Warriors are 21-14, 9-5 in conference.

 

Tim Mott (Las Vegas. NV/Las Vegas HS) went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Red Storm offensively in game one. Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) and Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) each homered in the loss.

Starting pitcher #Preston Grimes (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville)# allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings dropping to 4-1. #Tim McMahon (Littleton. CO/Heritage)# was solid in three relief frames surrendering an unearned run on one hit.

 

HPU catcher Aaron Asher went deep in a five-run third while Blake Amaral was the only Warrior with two hits. Turhan Folse went six innings striking out eight en route to his third season victory.

 

In the nightcap, #Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS)# provided the offensive charge aiding a #Jayson Madson (Tremonton. UT/Bear River HS)# quality start. Rosenhan went 3-for-4 including a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Madson (3-2) scattered two runs on seven hits over six innings while #Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville)# allowed an unearned run in his relief inning.

 

Daniel Cox (5-2) received the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Amaral and Asher again led the Warriors with two hits apiece.

 

Dixie State takes Easter Sunday off before opening a five-game set with the University Hawaii-Hilo on Monday. First pitch of the scheduled double header is set for 3pm Hawaiian (7pm Mountain).

 

The Storm returns home on Thursday, April 23 to face Grand Canyon University.
