Dixie State and HPU Split Series-Opening DH

Bailey shines again in nightcap

WAIPAHU, HAWAII – Dixie State College held on to a slim one-game advantage in the Pacific West Conference splitting the opening doubleheader against Hawaii Pacific on Thursday. The home club took game one 5-4, but the Storm bounced back with a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

 

Dixie State is 21-13 on the season, 9-5 in the conference. HPU is 20-13, 8-6.

 

In game one, DSC took a 3-0 in the second on back-to-back home runs by #Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS) and (Riverton, UT/Riverton)Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview)#, his team leading 10th of the season. Hawaii Pacific responded with a bases-clearing triple by Jacob Valentine.

 

Rosenhan plated his third RBI by knocking in #Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta)# with a double in the third. The Sea Warriors pulled even in the fourth on a Kenny Turner RBI single.

 

HPU's Blake Amaral homered to left field in the sixth off DSC starter #Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS)# to give the home club the lead.

 

                Southwick (L, 3-5) went the distance allowing five runs on nine hits. He added four strikeouts without allowing a walk. HPU's Caelen O'Meara picked up the win (5-1) scattering four runs on six hits. Kevin Matsumoto allowed two hits in the final inning, but notched his first save.

 

The nightcap featured a pitcher's duel between Dixie State's ace #Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS)# and HPU's Chad Wagner. Bailey continued to baffle hitters over 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and striking out six to earn his sixth consecutive win. #Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville)# nailed down the save, his fourth, inducing an Alex Agortsas ground out with the bases loaded.

 

The game's only run came in the Red Storm sixth when Oldfield scored #Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie)# from third with a sacrifice fly. Wagner (3-5) pitched well, but received the loss giving up one run on six hits in six innings.

 

Dixie State and Hawaii Pacific continue their five-game series on Friday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4:00pm Hawaiian.
