Storm Swept in Arizona (3/7/2009)

PHOENIX. ARIZ – Coach Littlewood's squad hoped to build a winning streak off Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS)'s pitching gem Friday night. The Grand Canyon Antelopes had other plans.



GCU held the Red Storm to three hits in game one and 3B Matt Fox outslugged Dixie in game two en route to a Saturday sweep. 5-1 and 12-4.



The losses dropped Dixie State to 7-8 on the season and 1-2 in Pacific West Conference play.



Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS) (1-3) allowed just two runs in his game one start. but the Storm could only muster one run on Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview)'s solo homerun to left in the second inning.



GCU starter Damion Swisher (1-3) went the complete game striking out eight in seven innings.



In game two. the Antelopes' third basemen went crazy at the dish.  After a strikeout in his first at-bat. Fox got hits in his next four plate appearances including a pair of two-run homers and a two-run single to notch six RBI.



Kris Cichoski (Las Vegas. NV/Durnago HS) (0-1) did not make it out of the second inning. He surrendered seven runs. six earned. in 1.1 innings. GCU starter Andy Rocha (1-2) delivered another complete game scattering four runs on 11 hits.



Tim Mott (Las Vegas. NV/Las Vegas HS) led the Storm offensively with three hits and two RBI.



The conference foes will battle one final time Sunday at noon. Dixie State will start Preston Grimes (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) while GCU plans to counter with Kevin Burbank.
