BAILEY BLANKS GRAND CANYON



Shutout aided by ten strikeouts



PHOENIX. ARIZ – Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS) (Mesa/SLCC) shined tossing a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts during Dixie State's 7-0 conference victory on the road Friday night at Grand Canyon University.



The Red Storm improved to 7-6 (1-0 Pac West). Grand Canyon dropped to 6-10 (0-1 Pac West).



Tim Mott (Las Vegas. NV/Las Vegas HS) (Las Vegas/Las Vegas) had four hits to pace the Dixie State 12-hit attack.



DSC struck for an early run when Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie) (St. George/Dixie) singled in Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) (Las Vegas/Centennial) after a leadoff triple in the first.



Both teams went scoreless until the Dixie fourth. With the bases loaded. Jessie Stone (St. George/Snow Canyon) crossed home on a balk. Nelson singled home two more runs and Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) (Sandy/Alta) tallied an RBI with a groundout. Dixie led 5-0 after four.



Jimmy Dever (Tuscon. AZ/Catalina Foothills HS) (Tucson/Catalina Foothills) doubled in a run in the sixth and Adams plated another in the seventh to push DSC ahead 7-0.



Bailey (1-0) allowed just two hits over the first eight frames before surrendering two leadoff singles in the ninth. He got the next three in a row to complete the gem.



Casey Collins (3-2) took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits in six innings.



Dixie State continues Pacific West Conference play against GCU with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon. The series concludes with a single-game Sunday.



The Red Storm will return home for a series against Academy of Arts SF on March 16 and 17.
