Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Dixie State's offense showed no mercy at Bruce Hurst Field on Saturday sweeping the visiting University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in doubleheader action 28-9 and 14-3.
Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview) had three home runs, a double and nine RBI in the first game and capped off his career day with two more hits and three additional runs knocked in during the nightcap.
The Red Storm have won three-in-a-row to push their season mark to 18-9 and 8-3 in Pacific West play. Hawaii-Hilo fell to 12-13, 3-8 within the conference.
Dixie State led 7-0 through three innings of game one, but tallied 21 runs on 13 hits over the final two innings to quell the Vulcans who scored seven times in their half of the sixth.
Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS) earned the win (4-0) scattering two runs on five hits in five innings. Kekoa Lee (3-2) surrendered 10 runs on seven hits in defeat.
The Red Storm pounded out 20 hits with Oldfield and
Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) each knocking four.
The second game featured the same early Red Storm offense, this time aiding starter
Preston Grimes (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville). The righty cruised through six innings allowing three runs on six hits to pick up his fourth win this season without a loss.
Dixie State took advantage of three separate situations with the bases loaded. Oldfield cleared the bags with a double in the first,
Tony Nelson (St. George. UT/Dixie) did the same with two outs in the third and
Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) tripled home three in the fourth.
DSC had 14 hits in the nightcap – Oldfield, Nelson and Friend each with two hits and three RBI.
The series finale is Sunday at Noon at Bruce Hurst Field with Dixie State expected to throw right-hander
