DSC best Hawaii Pacific Twice; Win Streak to Seven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Dixie State College started a long week of conference play, eight games scheduled over six days, with an important doubleheader sweep of Hawaii Pacific University 13-8 and 4-3 Monday at Bruce Hurst Field. The Red Storm improved to 14-8 on the season and 4-2 within the Pacific West Conference, extending their current winning streak to seven games. The Sea Warriors fell to 18-6, 6-4 in the conference. Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) was lights out on the day going 5-for-8 with three homers (two in the second game), a double, a single and seven RBI. In game one, Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS) pitched five innings allowing seven runs on six hits, but picked up his third win (3-3) thanks to Dixie State's 13 run on 14 hits offensive output. Adams and Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) each hit two-run home runs in a six-run second inning for the Red Storm. Hawaii Pacific got long balls from DH Aaron Asher and LF Blake Amaral in the game one loss. Chad Wagner (3-3) did not make it out of the second inning surrendering eight runs on eight hits. The second game highlighted two of the most promising pitchers in the conference – HPU's Caelan O'Leary and DSC's Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS). O'Meara struck out eight in five innings, but could not stop Adams who hit two homers and accounted for three of the Red Storm's four runs. Bailey ceded a run early in the HPU first when Sean Winston scored after Asher reached on an error. Tyson recovered allowing just five hits over the next five innings. In the HPU seventh, Bailey loaded the bases and was relieved by Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville). A two-run single by Jonah Hobson brought in two with both tallies charged to Bailey. Morlock retired the next three including striking out the final two to leave HPU's tying run stranded at second. Bailey tossed six innings to record his third win without a defeat while Morlock notched his second save. O'Meara received the hard-luck loss, his first of the season (4-1). The teams will complete a four-game conference series with another doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 4:00pm.
