Dixie State outhit, outslugged and outpitched the rookie squad Monday night at Bruce Hurst Field. Three home runs highlighted the Red Storm's 13-0 opening win while
Tyson Bailey (Mesa. AZ/Westwood HS) threw his second consecutive quality start as part of the 10-0 shutout in game two.
Dixie State improves to 10-8 on the season while the Urban Knights remain winless at 0-11.
The first game saw DSC starter
Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS) throw five scoreless innings for his second win of the year. Southwick (2-3) scattered three hits and struck out four keeping ahead of the count most of the game. Relievers
Justin Jarvis (Hurricane. UT/Hurricane) and
Ryan Przestwor (Las Vegas. NV/Bishop Gorman HS) tossed a combined two innings to close the game.
Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS) led the offensive charge for the Red Storm going 3-3 with 5 RBIs including a massive home run to left in the third.
Jesse Stone (St George. UT/Snow Canyon HS) provided the crescendo to Dixie State's nine-run fifth with a pinch-hit grand slam off AAU starter Danny Couser (0-1).
The Red Storm finished with 10 hits paced by Rosenhan's three and
Jimmy Dever (Tuscon. AZ/Catalina Foothills HS) chipped in two.
Bailey (2-0) continued first-rate pitching as of late with five more shutout innings – pushing his scoreless innings streak to 14. The Red Storm scored a single run in the first and broke open the game with a five-run fifth.
Drew Oldfield (Aurora, CO/Rangeview)'s three-run triple, his first three-bagger since March 13, 2007 with Salt Lake Community College, headlined the inning. Stone and
Aaron Friend (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial HS) each added two-run singles late to get DSC to double-digits in the run column.
Dixie State and Academy of Arts SF finish out the four-game series with another doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 11am.
