ST. GEORGE. Utah (DSC) –
Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School)’s triple and
Haley Schumers (Plain City. UT/Freemont High School)’ sacrifice fly provided all the offense
Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) needed as Dixie State defeated San Francisco Academy of Art in non-conference softball Saturday 3-0.
Folta scattered three hits and hit a batter but she didn’t walk anyone. The Red Storm managed just two hits off the Knights’ Sierrah Garcia. On Friday they beat her 9-0. collecting nine hits.
“This pitcher was harder for us to hit today than she was yesterday.” said Egge. “We were out in front of everything. We were just a little anxious. We weren’t making the adjustments. She was mixing it up better than yesterday and that was throwing us off a little bit.”
Dixie State scored two runs in the first and got and insurance run in the fifth.
Shantae Hunter (Idaho Falls. ID/Idaho Falls High School) got a single and moved up when the ball skipped past the right fielder to start DSC’s offense. Egge followed with her triple and Schumers added her sacrifice fly.
SFAA’s Shampayne Clay singled to open the second inning and stole second. but was stranded as Folta got the next three hitterson infield popups.
The Red Storm’s insurance run came when
Bailie Hicken (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak High School) was safe on an error. stole second. and advanced to third base on
Kelsey Mendenhall (Tooele. UT/Tooele High School)’s fly ball to deep centerfield. Hicken scored on
Dabney McIntyre (Taylorsville. UT/Taylorsville High School)’s squeeze bunt.
Folta struck out five batters. Garcia struck out two and walked one.
“She did a really great job.” DSC coach Beth Collett said of Folta. “I was impressed by her poise and composure. She didn’t throw like a freshman.”
Folta. who is from Tooele. was Utah’s high school player of the year in 2008.
