ST. GEORGE. UTAH – Senior Skyler Southwick (Las Vegas. NV/Basic HS) (Las Vegas/Basic) threw seven solid innings in game one and the Red Storm offense found its stride at home as the Dixie State College baseball team swept the visiting Central Washington Wildcats 16-4 and 6-2 Wednesday at Bruce Hurst Field.



The Red Storm are 3-4 on the season while the Wildcats remain winless at 0-6.



In the series opener. Southwick got out of a first inning jam and cruised through his final six innings. He was helped by a 12-run. 10-hit barrage by Dixie State in the first off CWU starter Derek Shoemaker (0-2) and reliever Tyler Warne. Southwick (1-1) tossed seven innings of six-hit ball allowing one run and striking out three.



Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta) (Sandy/Alta) had two hits including his team-leading third home run. a three-run shot. in the first. First baseman Alex Rosenhan (Highland. UT/Alta HS) (Highland/College of Eastern Utah) and DH Chase Pittsenbarger (Las Vegas, NV/Las Vegas) (Las Vegas/Cheyenne) each added three hits.



In the nightcap. CWU took the early lead. but Dixie State capitalized on two Wildcat errors scoring four times in the second inning. Adams knocked in two runs. one in the four-run second and another in a two-run sixth.



Junior Phil Finley (Washington. UT/Pine View HS) (Washington/Pine View) picked up the win (1-0) in relief and Todd Morlock (Magna, UT /Taylorsville) (Magna/Hillcrest/SLCC) notched his first save over the final two scoreless innings. Central's starter Chris Jackson dropped to 0-2 surrendering five runs. three earned. in 5.1 innings
