Conference March Ended by Dominican 1-0

Dixie State loses first match in nearly two months

ST. GEORGE – Sitting in first place in the conference and with a chance to secure a share of the Pacific West soccer title, the Red Storm ran into a game Dominican (CA) University team at Hansen Stadium. An early second half goal by the Penguins earned them a 1-0 win and ended an 11-game win streak inside the Pac West for Dixie State.

Dominican (8-9-3, 6-6-2) has won three of their last four matches including two away from home. The Penguins were outshot 15-5 in the match, but made the most of their opportunities making each of their shots at goal. Dixie State (12-4, 11-1) lost for the first time since September 5 against West-region power UC San Diego.

Mallory Englehardt gave the Penguins the game-winner early in the second half with an unassisted goal into the right corner in the 53rd minute.

The first half was scoreless although both teams had opportunity on goal. Mikala Wilkes (Cedar Hills. UT/Lone Peak HS '06) had a header right in front of the goal that was tipped over the crossbar by Dominican goalkeeper Alicia Paulsen. Three Dominican shots were saved solidly by DSC goalie Abby Monroe.

Wilkes paced DSC with four shots and Robyn Wall (Bountiful. UT/Bountiful HS '06) added three.

Dixie State will again attempt to earn a share of the Pac West title on Thursday when the welcome in the Urban Knights of Academy of Art University. Kickoff is set for 4:30pm at Hansen Stadium.
