ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Dixie State men's soccer team needed a ten-and-a-half minute scoring window to defeat visiting Chaminade 4-0 on Thursday evening to secure their first win inside the Pacific West Conference.
Freshman forward
Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) scored three goals in the first half and junior midfielder
Francisco Arellano (Ogden, UT/Pine View) added a goal and assist for Dixie State (3-4-1, 1-3). Chaminade (1-6, 0-4) has been shutout in their last two matches.
Roylance scored the first goal in the 13th minute after a beautiful pass from Arellano. The lead doubled to 2-0 when Roylance broke away from the defenders and beat goalkeeper Darren Smith on the left side.
Arellano netted a rebounded ball off a
Robby Astin (Hayden, ID/Coeur d'Alene) shot in the 18th minute to give the Red Strom a 3-0 advantage.
Roylance would complete his hat trick five minutes later on another breakaway down the middle of the field. He cut to the left side and beat the goalie with a soft shot that trickled over the goal line.
The match featured physical play producing seven yellow cards between the clubs. The Storm outshot the Silverswords 23-4 including nine-to-two with shots on goal.
Dixie State will continue Pac West play Saturday afternoon at Hansen Stadium against the University of Hawaii-Hilo beginning at 4:30pm. The team will finish off a three-match in six day stretch at home on Monday against Hawaii Pacific University.
