HONOLULU, HAWAII – The Dixie State men's soccer club travelled to the Hawaiian islands after to hard-fought, but disappointing 1-0 losses at home to Hilo and Hawaii Pacific. Saturday afternoon, the Storm's offense looked rejuvenated in a 3-1 defeat of the Chaminade Silverswords on a warm evening on Oahu.
Dixie State (4-6-1, 2-5 Pac West) had scored their last seven goals all against Chaminade to account for both conference wins. Being outshot by 10, Chaminade (2-9, 1-7) could not hold on to an early advantage.
The host Silverswords struck first in the seventh minute with a goal by Charles Johnson, assisted by Brandon Salvador.
DSC responded quickly to knot the match at 1-1.
Brent Knoblauch (Seattle. WA/Snow Canyon) set up Red Strom leading goal-scorer
Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) at the 8:43 mark.
Knoblauch found the goal unassisted in the 20th minute to give Dixie State a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Swords had the first shot of the second period, but DSC had the next six including an insurance goal by Roylance on a helper from
Francisco Arellano (Ogden, UT/Pine View).
Chaminade tried to pull close with five late shots, but none went in thanks in part to three saves by
Tyler McAninch (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial).
Dixie State looks to continue their momentum on Tuesday against the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii. Kickoff in Laie is set for 3:30pm Hawaiian.
