Steve Johnson is in his tenth year as Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations at Utah Tech after serving nearly nine years as the university’s director of public relations, marketing, publications, trademark and licensing. Steve also oversees the institution's collegiate licensing program.

Prior to his arrival at Utah Tech, he served as assistant sports information director at Southern Utah University, where he was in charge of all aspects of media relations for 10 intercollegiate sports, and handled game management responsibilities for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, women’s soccer and women’s gymnastics. Steve also served as media coordinator for the 2000 and 2002 Mid-Continent Conference Golf, 2001 Mid-Con Cross Country, and 2004 Mid-Con Outdoor Track and Field championships. He was also presented with the 2005-06 Mid-Con Women’s Basketball Media Guide of the Year award.

In addition, Steve has served in media relations and game management capacities at 11 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament regional sites, including the 2010 NCAA West Region Sweet 16 and Regional Final, and the 2024 First and Second Rounds in Salt Lake City. He also assisted the Utah Jazz Media Relations Department during the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals.

He was also the director of press operations for the Utah Summer Games from 2000-06, media coordinator for the NJCAA Women’s Softball National Championship tournament from 2009-11 and 2013, and served on the Dixie Rotary Bowl Executive Committee as media coordinator/SID from 2006-08.

A native of Ogden, Utah, Steve is a 1999 graduate of Weber State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Electronic Media, and worked as a student intern in the WSU Sports Information office for four years. He also served as assistant sports director for the campus radio station KWCR, where he did play-by-play, commentary and was a studio host, and worked as an intern at KUTV and KSL-TV in Salt Lake City.
