Shawn King is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Trailblazer women's swimming program.
King began his coaching careerĀ over 10 years ago, with experience coaching in Texas, Idaho, Utah, Illinois, and Florida, and he has coached all levels of athletes from developmental to the national level of USA Swimming. During his time in southern Utah, King has coached national qualifiers, dozens of Utah clubĀ state champions, along with individual and relay Utah Swimming state record holders.Ā
At the prep level, King served as the head coach for Desert Hills, Pine ViewĀ and Crimson Cliffs High SchoolsĀ in St. George. InĀ six years his teams won fiveĀ 4A State titles and he has been USCA Coach of the Year three times. He has beenĀ instrumental in developing the overall Menās Utah high school state record holding 200 and 400 freestyle relays. He has coached multiple state champions, state record holders, All-American swimmers, as well as NCAA Division I and Division II collegiate athletes. He is currently certified as an ASCA Level 3 coach for high school and USA Senior swimming.Ā
King is an active registered masters coach and has developedĀ a group of highly motivated 18 and over athletes who formĀ the SUSA Masters team at Sand Hollow.Ā Shawn's masters have won multiple Huntsman World Senior Games titles, placed in the top 10 at the USMSĀ Spring Nationals, and have placedĀ on the annual Top 10 list for US Masters swimming.
King graduated from Dixie State University with a degree in Psychology. His favorite part of coaching is going through the process of setting goals with his swimmers and aiding them in achieving those goals. He and his wife, Heather, are parents of four amazing boys.
