Michael Jurca is in his third season as assistant coach for the Dixie State Men's Golf program. Jurca returns to his native St. George after serving as assistant men's golf coach at Utah Valley University during the 2015-16 season.
He played golf for the BYU golf team in 2008, then left to a serve an LDS Church mission in Minneapolis, Minn. After returning home, he finished playing for BYU from 2011-2015. During his college career at Brigham Young University, one of Mike’s best finishes came during the PING Cougar Classic in 2012. He fired a 70-69-69 for an 8-under-par total and a runner-up finish. He was a consistent contributor to the BYU team throughout his career, making the traveling squad often.Â
Michael was a two-time Utah State individual champion at Dixie High School and helped lead the Flyers to three-straight Utah 3A state titles from 2005-07.Â
During his amateur career, Mike found most of his success on the Utah Golf Associations Amateur circuit, where he compiled a total of 15 wins from 2012 to 2015. Currently, he is enrolled in the PGA Apprentice Program, where he is working to become a member of the Professional Golfer’s Association of America. Â
As a teaching professional, Michael learned the fundamentals of golf from two of the most respected teaching professionals in the state of Utah, Mike Smith, and Kevin Averett. Mike Smith was named teaching professional of year by Golf Digest and the Utah PGA Section during his tenure. Kevin Averett is Southern Utah’s Premiere golf instructor and has been responsible for putting Southern Utah golf on the map. Both of these men have taught many collegiate and professional golfers in the state of Utah.Â
Michael currently serves the Assistant Golf Professional at The Ledges Golf Club in St. George. He and his wife McKell, who played volleyball collegiately at Southwest Minnesota State, are the parents of a baby daughter, Jayla, and the family resides in St. George.
