Kolney Cassel begins his first season on the Trailblazer football coaching staff and will serve as inside receivers coach.
Coach Cassel comes to Utah Tech after one season at Washington State, where he worked in an offensive quality control position during the 2021 season.
Prior to his time in the Palouse, Cassel spent two seasons at Hawai’i to play in, and coach in, the “Run-And-Shoot” offense under then-head coach Nick Rolovich. Cassel spent the 2019 season as a Warrior’s offensive graduate assistant and the 2018 season as a senior quarterback, appearing in one game.
Before transferring to UH, Cassel played three seasons at Sacramento State, where he played in seven games and threw three touchdowns during the 2015 season. Prior to Sacramento State, Cassel spent two seasons at SMU, where he played in the “Run-And-Shoot” offense for legendary head coach June Jones. Cassel redshirted during the 2013 season and appeared in five games for the Mustangs in 2014, including making his collegiate debut as a starter at Texas A&M.
A native of Yakima, Wash., Cassel attended Eisenhower High School, where he threw for over 4,100 career yards and 46 touchdowns, and was a first team all-Big 9 selection.
Cassel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Sacramento State in 2017, and completed work on his Master’s degree Science in Leadership Grand Canyon in 2022.
Coach Cassel and his fiancé, Adysen, reside in St. George.
