Cephus Johnson III

Cephus Johnson III is in his first season with the Trailblazer football program as an offensive analyst working with the wide receivers. 

Johnson played three seasons under current Utah Tech offensive coordinator Greg Stevens, as well as assistant coaches Nolan Givan and CJ Turner, at Southeastern Louisiana, where he was a dual-role playmaker at wide receiver and running back, and also served as a reserve quarterback. 

During his senior season with the Lions in 2022, Johnson saw time in 11 games at quarterback and threw for 1,354 yards on 119-for-184 passing and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 611 yards on 104 carries and eight scores.

Johnson started his collegiate career at South Alabama, where he threw for over 900 yards and five touchdowns as a redshirt freshman.

Following his collegiate career, Johnson signed free agent contracts in 2023 with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also signed with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats early in the 2025 season. 

A native of Mobile, Ala, Johnson set school records with 1,849 passing yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior at Davidson High School, and earned all-region and all-state honors. He graduated from SELU in 2022 with his Bachelor's degree in General Studies.
