Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith enters his second year as an assitant coach for the Red Storm - acting as the outfielder coach and first-base coach.

Andrew hails from Las Vegas, NV where he graduated from Bonanza High School with honors in 2002. He then received an academic and athletic scholarship from the University of San Francisco where he played from 2003-2006 graduating with honors with a degree in Media Studies. While at USF he saw action in nearly 200 games and was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team 3 times ('04-'06). As a senior in 2006 he was named All-WCC 2nd Team as a shortstop, was nominated for the WCC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, and helped lead the Dons to their first ever WCC Championship and NCAA Tournament bid.

Professionally, Andrew spent time with the Houston Astros organization and in the independent Frontier League. He also traveled to Europe for 3 season winning a batting title in the French Elite League in 2009, and most recently playing in the German Bundesliga South in 2011-12 where he also won the batting and home run titles in 2012.

As a coach, Andrew has experience with many youth programs as well as in American Legion. In 2010 he was named the top assistant coach in the River Valley League (collegiate summer league) in Dubuque, IA by league officials. During his time in Europe, Andrew was also responsible for coaching youth programs and served as a hitting coach for his club in 2012.


On September 21, 2012, Smith married the former Judy Kaempfer.
