Coach Atkins has been instrumental in shaping your women and men lives through the lens of track and field both as a coach and a professional athlete.
During his distinguished athletic career, Atkins was a semi-finalist in the 100-m in both Beijing (2008) and London (2012) Summer Olympics Games for his native country of The Bahamas. He also competed in three World Track and Field Championships, one of which he won a Silver Medal in the 100-m after he clocked the current Bahamas national record time of 9.91.
In 2016, Atkins was inducted in the Dickinson State University (N.D.) Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a 2013 NAIA Hall of Fame inductee in the athlete category. He excelled in both indoor and outdoor track and field for four years at Dickinson State, where he still owns several indoor and outdoor conference sprint records, and where he helped lead the Blue Hawks to four Dakota Athletic Conference championships.
