Internships/Work Study
The Dixie State Strength and Conditioning internship program is designed to assist young professionals gain experience and knowledge in the field of collegiate strength and conditioning. Internship positions are currently available for both fall and spring semesters and can be part-time or full-time with flexible hours based on the individuals schedule and needs, however a full semester commitment is needed. These positions are unpaid.
There is one work study position available for DSU student’s who are eligible. Please contact the strength and conditioning staff for more information. The duties for the work study student will be the same as for any intern, based upon qualifications.
Interns will have the opportunity to gain college credit towards graduation, if applicable, as well as valuable professional experience in the field of strength & conditioning and recommendation for future employment opportunities. Interns will be able to obtain hands-on coaching experience to become qualified strength and conditioning professionals. Interns will have the opportunity to work with 14 varsity sports at Dixie State with over 300 athletes. The level of initiative set forth by interns will determine their overall learning experience and responsibility.
Duties include: assist Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs including strength, speed, agility, flexibility, mobility, nutrition, and energy system development; teach proper technique and safety for exercises and drills; assist in set up and break down of equipment, day to day monitoring, cleaning, and maintenance of the weight room and equipment; motivating athletes to help them reach their athletic potential; proper communication with athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers; evaluate training and conduct testing to help student athletes achieve goals; implement and enforce rules, policies, and procedures of the weight room; serve as a positive role model to all DSU athletes; and any other duties as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Qualifications: Applicants must be highly motivated, with a tremendous work ethic, and a strong desire to pursue a career in strength and conditioning. Communication and organizational skills are a must. Experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning program and with the Olympic lifts is preferred. Completed or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field is preferred. Completed or working towards CSCS, SCCC, or USAW Certification is preferred. Volunteer interns must have proof of health insurance.
