(Honolulu, Sept. 3, 2026) - The Trailblazers opened the OUTRIGGER Invitational on Thursday night being swept by host Hawaii at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Utah Tech (2-2) fought tough against the Rainbow Wahine who won sets, 25-17, 25-11, 26-24 in front of 5,148 fans on the islands.
For a fourth straight match to start the season, senior opposite hitter
Nana Asiata led the Trailblazers in kills finishing with 12.
Sophomore outside hitter
Cale Torgerson tallied 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks & added a pair of assists while senior setter
Marley Roe recorded her second double-double of the season registering a team-leading 15 assists & 10 digs.
How It Happened
Hawaii (2-2) jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead and continued to lead 11-5 after a kill.
A 3-0 run for the Trailblazers brought UT within 11-8 on a kill by
Lusia Langi (
watch).
A Hawaii attack error kept UT down only a pair (14-12) with UT keeping within two after a successful challenge made it 19-17 on a kill by Asiata.
Unfortunately for the Trailblazers, that would be their final point of the set with UT running off the final six points of the set.
Another quick start to the second set for the Rainbow Wahine put UH ahead 15-5 at the media timeout and after a service ace by
Tessa Treanor (
watch), Hawaii closed out the set on an 8-3 run for the convincing set win.
Taking their first lead of the match in the third set, Utah Tech led 4-3 after a block by a trio of Trailblazer defenders.
With Hawaii leading 16-12 midway through the set, a 5-0 run for UT pushed the Trailblazers in front, 17-16 and the Trailblazers continued to lead 23-21 after a kill by Torgerson.
Three straight kills for the Rainbow Wahine gave the hosts match point leading 24-23, but another kill by Torgerson kept the Trailblazers hopes alive.
After a service error, Hawaii closed out the match with one final block to complete the sweep.
