Jon Judkins has announced the signing of fall 2023 signee Owen Mackay to a financial aid agreement on Monday.
A 6'4 guard from St. George, Mackay is a 2024 graduate of Snow Canyon High School and went on a two-year mission after high school.
In 22 games as a senior in 2023-24, Mackay repeated as the Utah Class 4A Player of the Year after averaging 25.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game as the Warriors advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4A UHSAA State Tournament.
Mackay also put together a strong junior season in 2022-23 averaging 24.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game to earn the first of two Utah Class 4A Player of the Year honors.
He recorded nine double-doubles, including a 31-point, 15-rebound performance against Pine View and scored a season-high 37 points against Desert Hills.
Mackay got off to a strong start to his prep career as a sophomore in 2021-22 earning Class 4A First Team honors averaging 13.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
For Mackay, the decision to sign with Utah Tech came down to a comfort level with the program.
"I chose Utah Tech because I simply felt comfortable. The coaches are amazing and the program is truly incredible," he said at the time of his signing.
